Composer Lab 2024 Public Workshop

A public workshop in which Composer Lab 2024 participants Amelia Clarkson, Finola Merivale, Barry O’Halpin and Yue Song each explore compositional ideas for their individual works-in-progress in the live orchestral setting. The workshop will be facilitated by Composer Lab mentor David Fennessy, with Gavin Maloney conducting the National Symphony Orchestra.

Composer Lab is a professional development initiative delivered in partnership by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland, in association with RTÉ lyric fm.

Composer Lab 2024 culminates in a public performance of the final works at the National Concert Hall on Tuesday 21 January 2025 at 8pm with live broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm (find out more).

What to expect from the Public Workshop

The workshop will run from 10am to 3.15pm, with a one hour break for lunch.

This open rehearsal is an excellent opportunity for those interested in composing at any level, and offers insights into the collaborative nature of writing for symphony orchestra. Sections of each of the four participant composer’s works will be workshopped by the full orchestra, with an opportunity for feedback to be shared by the composers, performers, mentor and conductor.

Audience members will be seated in the NCH balcony and are welcome to enter and exit during the workshop however, we kindly ask that talking and noise is kept to a minimum so as not to disturb the musicians and composers during their performances and feedback.
