Angel Climent was born in Spain and began his musical studies as a chorister. At the age of nine he entered the Valencia Conservatoire to study piano and remained as a student there until 1961.

Rhoda Coghill was born in Dublin. She began her musical studies as a pianist, studying with Patricia Read in the Leinster School of Music before continuing with Arthur Schnabel in Berlin.

An Irish composer is defined as anyone who was born or is permanently resident in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.
