Ulysses Journey 2022: Film screening and Discussion on Joyce and Music in association with One Dublin One Book

Screening of six newly-commissioned music and film works complemented by a discussion on 'Joyce & Music' by composer Benjamin Dwyer in conversation with Linda O’Shea Farren, CMC’s Projects, Programmes & Events Manager.

As part of Ulysses Journey 2022 celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Ulysses by James Joyce, the Contemporary Music Centre and Centre Culturel Irlandais have co-commissioned six new works by composers from Ireland, which are inspired by, reflect on and/or respond to Ulysses, together with films by filmmakers from Ireland to accompany these new works.

These new music and film works are supported by the Irish Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 programme; by One Dublin One Book 2022 through funding from Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, Dublin City Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media; and by New Music Dublin 2022.

This event takes place as part of the One Dublin One Book 2022 programme of events. One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries, which encourages everyone to read a book connected with the capital city during the month of April every year. Ulysses Journey 2022 is a programme of events and commissions celebrating the centenary of the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses across Ireland, France and Hungary from February to June 2022. Responding to Ulysses, this project features an international series of concerts, screenings of six newly commissioned music and film works and talks about Joyce. The Ulysses Journey 2022 new music and film works were co-commissioned with the Centre Culturel Irlandais as part of its Joyce Season (2 February - 20 June 2022) supported by the Irish Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 programme.
