Contemporary Music Centre awarded PRS Foundation Beyond Borders Funding for the Sherman Petcu Duo Tour

The Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland is delighted to announce the details of the Ireland and UK tour by Nathan Sherman (viola) and Alex Petcu (percussion), supported by PRS Foundation Beyond Borders funding. Sherman and Petcu will showcase a dynamic programme of newly commissioned and existing works for viola and percussion by CMC composers Ed Bennett, Siobhan ClearyÁine MallonKevin O'Connell, Nick RothBenedict Schlepper-Connolly alongside works by international contemporaries.

Nathan Sherman and Alex Petcu are performers at the forefront of contemporary music, winning critical acclaim for their recent album ‘Totemic’ released on the Irish music label Ergodos. For this PRS Foundation Beyond Borders tour, they present works from ‘Totemic’, alongside two world premieres for viola, percussion and electronics by Nick Roth and Siobhan Cleary, commissioned by the duo with funds from The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. With the PRS Foundation Beyond Borders funding new works will be commissioned from composers Ed Bennett, Kevin O’Connell and Áine Mallon.

Nathan and Alex are committed exponents of new music by composers from Ireland, together they have been blazing a trail in the performance of new works for viola and percussion. CMC is excited to support the commission of new works by composers Ed Bennett, Kevin O’Connell and Áine Mallon and to enable the performance of new works by Siobhan Cleary, Nick Roth and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly. This tour will be a wonderful opportunity for audiences at home and abroad to engage with the music of composers from Ireland.”

The Sherman Petcu duo tour will take place across Ireland and the UK from March 2023 into 2024. The tour is presented in partnership with The Night With (Scotland), Walled City Music Festival (Derry), Cafe OTO (London), FUAIM (Cork) and Finding A Voice Festival (Tipperary).
