This CD, the first in a new promotional series, presents 11 works by a range of Irish composers performed by a diverse range of international and Irish performers. Funded by Culture Ireland, the series aims to showcase the current work of Irish composers, taking the listener on a journey into the vibrant world of new Irish music.
A work of dark, gothic beauty, “Dubh” presents seven tracks by seven Irish composers: Linda Buckley, Judith Ring, Enda Bates, Peter Moran, Scott McLaughlin, Garrett Sholdice and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly. The CD features Amsterdam-based new music group, Trio Scordatura who create spaces both of astonishing intimacy and subtlety, and almost terrifying, textured expansiveness.
Ergodos Musicians perform music by Irish composers Garrett Sholdice, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Jonathan Nangle and Simon O’Connor, composed after Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ chorale prelude ‘Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ’.
This release on the Ergodos label features song arrangements by composers Garrett Sholdice and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, working closely with the Ergodos Musicians. The chosen songs span over 800 years of music, from John Dowland and Vivaldi to Steve Earle, Richard Thompson and The xx.
