SlapBang - new and experimental sounds from Lina Andonovska (flutes) and Matthew Jacobson (drums) featuring pieces by Barry O'Halpin & Nick Roth

10 March 2023 20:00

Smock Alley Theatre

High energy, high octane contemporary music from Lina Andonovska and Matthew Jacobson - SlapBang.

Independently, both are internationally respected sound makers in the fields of composed score and improvisation. Collectively, they are embarking upon a quest to commission new work and improvisational scenarios for their combination of amplified low flutes and drum kit. Andonovska was a recent recipient of Music Network’s Music Capital Scheme, purchasing a one of its kind contrabass flute by innovative Dutch flute maker Eva Kingma. This is one of a few of the contrabass flutes on the island of Ireland, and the only one by Kingma in the Republic of Ireland. This unique and extraordinary instrument will be featured as part of the duo’s performance. The performance is for all ages who are curious to explore adventurous sonorities straddling contemporary, jazz and improvisation. The sound world lends itself to avant garde experimentation, and the two instrumentalists are a tour de force. They will perform pieces composed specifically for them by Barry O’Halpin, Rachael Lavelle, Nick Roth and Colm O’Hara.

This performance is supported by the Arts Council.
