Irish composers at New Music Dublin

The upcoming New Music Dublin festival takes place this weekend at the National Concert Hall and features several events involving Irish composers and their work. Here’s a selection of some of the events:
- The Contemporary Music Centre’s New Music Marathon in conjunction with TCD Music Composition Centre takes place on Friday, 3 March from 11.00am.
- A new work by 2012 Jerome Hynes Award winner Emma O’Halloran will be premiered on the opening night at 6.45pm.
- Composition workshops for selected Irish composers take place during the weekend with Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud and the Fidelio Trio. The workshops will involve young composers Rúaidhrí Mannion, Piaras Hoban, Sean Clancy, Emma O’Halloran, Amanda Feery, and Eric Skytterholm Egan.
- CMC's Art of Sound Exhibition will be on display throughout the weekend in the foyer of the National Concert Hall
- A participatory choral project, Here is the NEWS with composer Brian Irvine will see a new contemporary choral work created by participants over a two-day period.
- A new work by Ronan Guilfoyle, Counterparts: Joyce in Paris is premiered on Saturday, 2 March at 1.05pm.
- David Fennessy’s Music for the pauses in a conversation between John Cage and Morton Feldman features in a concert by the Fidelio Trio at 2.30pm on 2 March.
- A special Raymond Deane focus marking the composer’s 60th Birthday will include a new short film commissioned by CMC about the composer from filmmaker Mark Linnane alongside performances of two of the composer’s works.
- On Sunday, 3 March at 1.05pm the Callino Quartet premiere a Kevin Volans’ String Quartet No. 11 and Ian Wilson’s In fretta, in vento (String Quartet No.6).
