Derry International Choral Festival begins this week
The City of Derry International Choral Festival will take place this week from Thursday 19 to Sunday 23 October 2016.
Created as a joyous celebration of choral music-making, the festival provides opportunities for competitive and non-competitive participation for singers across a wide range of styles, ensembles and ages.
School, national and international choirs are invited to take part in a range of competitions across the five-day festival including Equal Voice, Mixed Voice, Youth, Sacred, Popular, Jazz & Gospel, and Vocal Ensemble categories.
As part of the festival, The Contemporary Music Centre presents an annual award for the best performance of a piece by an Irish composer. All choral works found in the Contemporary Music Centre’s online library are eligible for consideration and competing choirs in all school, national and international categories can apply for this award. The purpose of this award is to encourage choirs of all standards and abilities to perform the large volume of choral repertoire composed by CMC registered composers. A commerative engraved plate, cash prize plus vouchers to redeem on choral works from the Contemporary Music Centre will be awarded to the winning choir.
CMC looks forward to hearing this year's entries and wishes the organising committee at Derry Choral Festival every success with this year's festival. The full programme can be viewed here.
