Sonorities Festival 2024

For over forty years Sonorities has led the way for musicians, composers and sound artists from around the world to make and present work for curious listeners. Locations across Belfast play host to cutting edge music making, including the most advanced music venue on the island of Ireland: The Sonic Lab at SARC.

The festival programme includes concerts, club nights, sound walks, installations, talks and more.

This edition of Sonorities will run from Monday 8th to Saturday 13th of April.

The programme contains 41 events (39 of which are free!) featuring 98 acts from over 20 countries.

Highlights include:
• Jennifer Walshe, Panos Ghikas and Wobbly (Jon Leidecker) as festival artists in residence, with a performance featuring Caoimhín Breathnach’s AN GLÉACHT accompanied by a live score, and a new piece made specifically for the Sonic Lab.
• Shiva Feshareki will be performing her live ambisonic turntable composition LIQUID ZIGGURAT, which she has developed during her recent residency at SARC.
• Spheric Totemic fuses influences from DJ Premier, Konono No.1 and the UK free improv scene, featuring Alexander Hawkins (keys), Neil Charles (bass), Mandhira de Saram (violin), Steve Davis (drums) and Matt Wright (compositions and electronics).
• Portugal’s Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble will perform two operas in the Brien Friel Theatre at QUB: A Laugh to Cry by Miguel Azguime and Blown off Course by Pedro Rebelo with libretto by Glenn Patterson.
• This year’s festival includes interwoven talks on the theme of Human Computer Improvisation, with a keynote session featuring John Bowers and Lucy Suchman.
• Baltimore band Horse Lords will headline the festival closing party at the Black Box.
