Kirkos 10th Anniversary Festival: Concert 2 featuring music by Sebastian Adams, Andrew Hamilton & Jonathan Nangle.
Programme
Sebastian Adams - New Work
Jonathan Nangle - Leise Abbendämmerung (Clarinet, Cello, Electric guitar) [World Premiere, New Commission]
Leise Abenddämmerung translates as “soft dusk”. It appears as a stage direction in the Liebestod, the final dramatic conclusion to Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde. As Isolde mourns over Tristan’s dead body, she has a vision of him, star-haloed rising into the air. At this point, Wagner instructs a soft dusk to be projected onto the backdrop.
Andrew Hamilton - Ritual of Abduction (Violin, Viola, Cello)
A reflection on the impact on contemporary composers and musiciansthe of Rite of Spring, one of the twentieth century’s seminal works, one hundred years after its premiere in Paris. A series of 're-compositions' of parts of the work by selected Irish composers, with live visuals and performed by a string trio.
Fluxus Sequence devised by Kirkos
Andy Ingamells - Monument Piece
