grave goods (2018) is one of several recent works serving as connective tissue for my larger composition for Crash Ensemble. Its exploratory and highly personal approach to the electric guitar begins with an invented retuning of the strings based on the natural harmonic series. This reshuffling of instrument’s rules demands a defamiliarised and tactile approach, a flow of discovery where precarious and bell-like resonances are unlocked. Simple, unfolding melodic lines weave and tangle over uneasy shimmers just beyond the confines of Western tuning.
