The versatile Amstel Saxophone Quartet from the Netherlands features Ian Wilson’s ‘Atlantica’ on this disk, together with works by Xenakis, Donatoni, Tristan Keuris and others.

The history of the tango from the 1900s to the present day is told here by performers Benjamin Dwyer (guitar), Kenneth Edge (saxophone) and Claudia Atrio (voice). Featuring composers of the period alongside Ben Dwyer’ s ‘Tango para Joaquin’, this CD gives an exciting portrayal of the evolution of the dance.

Recent works for solo instruments, ensemble, choir and orchestra are featured on this CD in performances from Ensemble Modern, Ensemble WireWorks and Ireland’s National Chamber Choir. Soloists Catherine Leonard (vn), Constantin Zanidache (va) and David Stromberg (vc) also feature, with conductor Siân Edwards.

Harp duo Cormac de Barra and Anne-Maire O’Farrell have been playing together for over a decade. As composer performers, ‘Double Strung’ reflects a marriage of Ireland’s oral musical heritage and the classical tradition.
