Peter Moran
Peter Moran received his music degree from University College Dublin and his MA and PhD from the University of York. He has received awards and commissions including the Carl von Ossietzky Composition Prize, the Walter Becket Cup, and the Per Cent for Arts Commission. Very active in music education, he directs the Music Educators Orchestra and has released two composition workbooks for Irish primary schools. From 2012-2015, he was the secretary of the Association of Irish Composers.
In 2012, he helped established Dublin’s first Javanese gamelan orchestra in UCD, where he now teaches. In 2014 he founded a second gamelan orchestra in Ireland's National Concert Hall, receiving the instruments as a gift from the Sultan of Yogyakarta in Java, and where he now directs four separate ensembles.
Peter is also the editor of the AIC New Music Journal, and a co-curator of the Listen At Arthurs concert series in Dublin, which he established in 2016. When not composing or gamelaning, he can be found playing in folk music sessions in his local pubs.
