CMC celebrated the end of a successful and eventful year for new music with an event involving solo performances, electronic and audiovisual works at its premises on 14 December 2011. The event was curated by composer Gráinne Mulvey and featured a diverse selection of composers spanning different age ranges and musical styles. Flautist Joe O'Farrell performed two programmes of works by Irish composers for solo flute and flute with electronics throughout the evening.

Gráinne Mulvey's work for flute and tape Shifting Colours was written in 2011. The composer describes the work as follows:

Shifting Colours combines real flute and synthesized flute sounds to form a collage, which leads from timbral to fully pitched material towards the end of the piece. The flute part interacts by either commenting on the textures, or by merging with them, so as to blur the difference between the live part and the processed tape recordings. All the material in the tape part is derived from recorded flute sounds, treated in the manner of musique concrete.
