Ian Wilson performances during June
June sees a number of premieres and performances of Ian Wilson’s works in Ireland and abroad.
The Hours, a new 45-minute work for jazz trio and string quartet will be premiered as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival on 27 June. The 7-movement work, which is inspired by the series of prayer times during a cloistered day, will be performed by Cathal Roche, Ronan Guilfoyle, Matthew Jacobson, and the ConTempo Quartet at the Triskel Christchurch.
Earlier in the month, the composer’s 2006 work for choir and saxophone quartet, Little red fish receives its UK premiere by the BBC Singers and the Rascher Quartet under James Morgan on 17 June at St Paul’s Knightsbridge, London.
Other premieres include a solo marimba piece Bal-Beo-Nea performed by Ji Hye Jung at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, USA on 10 June; a new version of Sarée in Kassel for alto saxophone and organ performed by Bas Apswoude and Una Cintina at St. Laurentiuskerk, Alkmaar, The Netherlands on 28 June; while on 29 June in Amsterdam the composer’s work Ballad of Breath and Sleeping II will be performed by Monica Germino and Ties Mellema at De Rode Bioscoop.
Other performances include Lios na Gaoithe for flute with glissando headjoint, performed by William Dowdall at a concert during the Warsaw 2013 Instrumental Woodwind Competition on 7 June, and the UK Premiere of Bewitched for soprano and string quartet by Deirdre Moynihan and members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra at the “Culture, Health and Wellbeing” International Conference in Bristol on 25 June.
