Elaine Agnew is commissioned by Aspiro youth ensemble, Carlow

Aspiro is a dedicated youth arts organisation  committed to achieving a new vision for children and young people to engage in choral music. Aspiro also recognises the importance of contributing to Irish choral repertoire, through the commissioning of new works. Supported by the Arts council, they have previously commissioned Ian Wilson (An t-Oilean) and Sue Furlong (Our Deepest Fear).

Aspiro’s latest commission, offers them the opportunity to work with Elaine Agnew. For this new work Elaine has collaborated with Aspiro Artistic Director Mary Amond O’Brien, writer Sean Hardie and members of the Youth Ensemble.

This piece explores the 'aural' and 'visual'  in the physical spaces and surrounds of VISUAL, Centre for Contemporary Art and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, in Carlow.  In preparation for the performance Aspiro members have been working with movement consultant Bryan Burroughs since the beginning of September.

The premiere of this innovative  piece for choir, piano and chimes, will be given by the Aspiro Youth Ensemble, on Saturday 25 September in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre at 8pm. The premiere will be followed by a post performance discussion, offering insight into the commission and the composing process.

In advance of the premiere, the public is invited to a special preview of the piece on Friday 24, September, for Culture Night 2010. This preview will include an exploratory workshop of the new composition with Elaine, movement consultant Bryan Burroughs and members of Aspiro Youth Ensemble.  For further information contact Artisic Director Mary Amond O’Brien: info@aspirochoir.ie.
