Kilkenny Arts Festival 2025: We Who Live Under Heaven

Haunting, wondrous and deeply unsettling, We Who Live Under Heaven merges live performance, electronic music and cutting-edge technology to create a startlingly intimate encounter with the unknown.

At the heart of this immersive experience is a being held in captivity. Its mournful song – composed by Roger Doyle and performed by countertenor Morgan Crowley – invites audiences to imagine a world where connection transcends difference.

Directed by Jo Mangan and created by The Performance Corporation, We Who Live Under Heaven uses advanced motion capture, spatial audio and responsive 3D animation experienced through an individual headset to conjure a space of transformation and shared wonder.

Step inside. What you see – and what sees you – may shift how you understand the ‘other’ ... and yourself.

Please note: Audience members will wear a lightweight headset during the performance. Headsets are provided.
