Sparky Conversations: All Art is Activist with Brian Irvine

CMC composer Brian Irvine leads the latest event in our artist-led discussion series Sparky Conversations.
For me all art, all composition, all making of sound, shape or word is a communicative action or activity and those actions have impact beyond ...and that impact is often around ideas of “change” ....change of feeling, change of awareness, change of being, change of connection, change of language, change of belonging and understanding, change of sense, change of nonsense..but “change” never the less …..and that change can be momentary, fleeting or permanent, disturbing, bewildering, boring... illuminating. The making of these moments of “change”, or these nuggets of “disruption" is activism... it's unavoidable and it should be….and it hunkers at the core of our wonderful stuff making hearts..as it should.
Brian Irvine is a Belfast-born composer whose unique musical world combines the known and the unknown, the free and the fixed, the schooled and the unschooled. He is driven by a single desire to connect, disrupt, reinvent and re-imagine all aspects of life, people, society, art and understanding in any and as many ways possible.

As always, all are welcome to Sparky Conversations, and participation in discussions is encouraged. This season, conversations will begin with an open forum for audience questions and ideas, followed by a presentation from the artist/initiator.
Discussions are delivered online via Zoom, with closed captions available. Register here.
