NMD 2022: BrassFest - six world premieres, created with six brass bands, featuring music by Anselm McDonnell

Clonakilty Brass Band (Conductor Ger Condon); City of Waterford Brass (Conductor Julie Quinlan); Roughan Silver Band (Conductor Stephen Crooks); 1st Old Boys Brass Band (Conductor Stephen Cairns); Drogheda Brass Band (Conductor John Carpenter); Boherbuoy Brass Ensemble (Conductor Andrew Jordon).
Six world premieres, created with the six brass bands, followed by a performance of a new work for massed brass ensemble led by The Wallace Collection brass quintet from Scotland.
During lockdown, six emerging composers were tasked with writing short sketches for brass quintet during the online version of NMD in 2021, all of which were premiered by the RIAM Faculty Brass Quintet. Following this, all six composers were paired with a brass band each (from somewhere on the island of Ireland) and asked to work with them to extend and complete these sketches, ready for performance at NMD 2022. The Wallace Collection will be leading the massed ensemble and have been working remotely with the bands online over the last year. Andrew Duncan mentored the 6 composers for their pieces.
