David Harold Cox (1945-2020)
The Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland is deeply saddened by the passing of David Harold Cox. Born in Portsmouth, England in 1945, CMC-represented composer and musician David Cox passed away in Cork on 18 August 2020.
David’s works range from solo instrumental to large-scale choral, chamber and orchestral works, including commissions from the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Cork International Choral Festival and the Arts Council of Ireland.
Having studied music in the University of Birmingham, David first taught music in the University of Sheffield before taking up the position of Professor of Music in UCC in 1994, where he rose to the position of Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences before retiring in 2010.
The Board and Staff of CMC express their deepest condolences to David's family and friends for their loss on his passing. In accordance with current guidelines, a private family funeral will take place. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
