BBC Radio 3 Hear and Now programme features Irish New Music.
On Sunday 26th June Ed McKeon introduces the first of two programmes of new Irish music, this week features a concert given by the Ulster Orchestra conducted by Jurjen Hempel on the 3rd of May, including works by Christopher Norby, Ian Wilson, David Morris, Frank Lyons and a world premiere by Brian Irvine. Plus composer Donnacha Dennehy (left) talks about his new CD, Gra agus Bas.
The second programme on Sunday 2 July features live recordings from the Sligo New Music Festival 2011which took place in April, including Ian Wilson’s, The Book of Ways for improvising saxophonist and improvising string quartet (2011)Across a clear blue sky for string quartet, radios and drumming toys (2009) and re:play for improvising tenor saxophone, string quartet, piano and double bass (2007). Presenter Ed Mckeon, will be joined by guest Eve O’Kelly, previous Director of the CMC.
