Galway Music Residency Programme seeks applications for Composer in Residence

As part of its year-long 10th Birthday Celebrations, The Galway Music Residency is seeking submissions from Irish or Irish-based composers to write a piece of music in celebration of a decade of music in Galway.

The call for submissions also includes a Composer in Residence posting, the first of its kind in the ten year history of the residency. The selected composer will write a piece for the current Galway Ensemble in Residence, the ConTempo Quartet of not more than ten minutes duration, and will be required to make regular visits to Galway in the capacity of Composer in Residence, conducting school visits and compositional workshops from September 2012 to February 2013.

Applicants will be assessed according to their artistic merit, ambition, originality and proven track record by representatives of the Galway Music Residency, ConTempo Quartet and the Contemporary Music Centre. Composers should apply with a cover letter and CV, a proposal for the work, support material (two scores with sound/video recordings), and suggested ideas for the educational element of the programme.

The Galway Music Residency is the oldest residency programme in Ireland and has served the people of Galway and beyond with performances, master-classes, and workshops. The 10th Birthday season is a year-long retrospective which will see special guest artists returning for concert events throughout the year to play highlights from the past decade and take part in a national tour to Dublin, Cork and Mayo, as well as a three day Festival.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 24 August 2012.
