An event celebrating Raymond Deane’s 60th birthday takes on 2 February

Raymond Deane

The afternoon event is presented by DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, CMC and the Society for Musicology in Ireland and features performances of a number of Deane’s early compositions as well as a preview of Deane’s new opera, The Alma Fetish.

Taking place in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, this free event includes an address by Roger Doyle, an introduction and overview of Deane’s music by Dr Mark Fitzgerald, and a panel discussion between the composer, and librettist and writer Gavin Kostick chaired by CMC’s Jonathan Grimes.

Works performed include Orphic Piece IV, Aliens, Embers for string quartet, and the premiere of the composer’s first string quartet.

The event marks the first of a number of events celebrating Raymond Deane’s 60th birthday. On 5 February the RTÉ Horizons series features performances of two of his orchestral works Epitomes and Ripieno, and the New Music Dublin festival will include the screening of a new film about the composer alongside performances of some of his works.
