Composer Emma O'Halloran to feature in Classical:NEXT opening showcase
Classical:NEXT is an annual industry gathering for classical and art music, and includes conference sessions, showcase performances and networking opportunities for participants. CMC has represented contemporary music from Ireland at this event since 2015.
Details of next year’s opening have been announced and Brooklyn venue, National Sawdust, will feature with an event entitled, ‘National Sawdust: Hear It New!’. The concert will be curated by National Sawdust’s co-founder and artistic director Paola Prestini and produced by Holly Hunter, director of National Sawdust Projects, and will feature Irish composer Emma O’Halloran’s work Constellations.
Emma O’Halloran is based in New Jersey and is currently a doctoral candidate at Princeton University. Her work has been performed at the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival, and MATA Festival, and she has collaborated with artists such as Crash Ensemble, Contemporaneous, the Refugee Orchestra Project, PRISM Saxophone Quartet, and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. She was a recipient of the 2018 National Sawdust Hildegard Award, a competition for emerging female, trans, and nonbinary composers.
Classical:NEXT takes place from 15–18 May 2019 in Rotterdam.
