Dave Flynn’s new work, ‘The Clare Concerto’, receives its premiere by the Clare Memory Orchestra

The work will be performed on 9 November 2013 at glór, Ennis, Co. Clare, by a 70 piece ensemble featuring several musicians whom composer Dave Flynn has worked with, including among others Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, Bjorn Bantock, and Mick O’Brien.

Described by Dave Flynn as “the culmination of my life’s work so far”, The Clare Concerto was commissioned by Clare Arts Office under the Per Cent for Art Scheme. The work reflects the places and musicians of Clare and is the largest work composed by the Clare-based composer to date. Its performance will be the first time an orchestra of this instrumentation has performed in concert.

The Clare Memory Orchestra was founded by Dave Flynn in 2012. The orchestra plays from memory and combines some of Ireland’s leading traditional and classical musicians to create a distinctive new sound. For the performance, the orchestra will be joined by a group of 50 talented ‘Apprentice’ young musicians as well as some established professionals, all of whom have volunteered their time to the project.
