Finola Merivale awarded CMC Residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris
Following a highly competitive call among CMC registered composers, US-based Irish composer Finola Merivale has been selected for a residency at the the Centre Culturel Irlandais.
The composer residency, in association with CMC, is part of the CCI’s annual residency programme for 2019–20 and will enable the composer to spend time at the centre to work on a number of composition projects.
Finola Merivale is currently living in New York City, where she is pursuing a DMA in Composition at Columbia University, studying with Zosha Di Castri, Marcos Balter and Georg Haas. She spoke to CMC about her plans for the residency:
I am honoured to be awarded this residency. The CCI has a wonderful reputation, and it is such a privilege to be able to spend one month working in such an inspiring place. I look forward to taking field recordings around the city of Paris, and exploring the acoustic spaces of the underground tunnels and chambers in the city. I am absolutely over the moon to hear this news, and I look forward to a productive and stimulating time there.
The partnership between CMC and the Centre Culturel Irlandais for this composer residency was established in 2015, and previous recipients include Greg Caffrey and Ailís Ní Riaín.
Finola Merivale joins 35 other artists across different artistic backgrounds who will each spend from one to three months in Paris to develop their proposed projects.
