Ian Wilson conducts the Ulster Orchestra in a premiere of one of his works
Flags and Emblems is a work for piano soloist plus the wind, brass and percussion sections of the Ulster Orchestra and the Ballygowan Flute Band. The work takes two very different types of musical material and explores how having them in close proximity can alter their fundamental characteristics.
This 18-minute work by Belfast-born composer Ian Wilson will be premiered on 30 October 2012 in the Whitla Hall, Belfast by pianist Matthew Schellhorn, the Ulster Orchestra, the Ballygowan Flute Band, and the composer, who makes his conducting debut with the orchestra. The concert, which also includes works by Stravinsky and Lutoslawski, is part of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queens.
The Contemporary Music Centre will present a short panel discussion with Ian Wilson and Matthew Schellhorn before the concert at 7.30pm.
