New music at the Walled City Music Festival

Fidelio Trio Fidelio Trio

The Walled City Music Festival (WCM) takes place in Derry this July from 19th to 26th and features a number of new music events.

The Fidelio Trio perform a programme on 21 July at 7.30pm featuring a new work commissioned by WCM from Frank Lyons, The River Still Sings. As part of the concert, CMC will host an interval discussion with Frank Lyons, Paul Moore (who collaborated with the composer on the sound design and visuals), and Mary Dullea of the Fidelio Trio.

Meanwhile on 26 July, the Brodsky Quartet, with Mezzo Soprano Loré Lixenberg and WCM Artistic Director Cathal Breslin (piano) perform a concert in The Great Hall Magee at 7.30pm which includes works by Philip Hammond and Christopher Norby.

Also featured on 21–22 July in association with CMC is a workshop for composers with Brian Irvine and the Fidelio Trio. Open to composers represented by CMC or studying composition at postgraduate level, the workshop will result in a new work composed over the weekend based on the news of the day. The works will be workshopped by the Fidelio Trio on 22 July and performed at a special concert that evening. Further information on the workshop is available here
