Ian Wilson’s music receives three premieres during May
May will see a number of performances of Ian Wilson's works in the UK, US and Ireland.
On Sunday, 12 May in London’s Wigmore Hall, Belgian cellist David Cohen accompanied by pianist Charles Owen will premiere The little Spanish prison, a work commissioned by David Cohen and inspired by the Robert Motherwell painting of the same name.
Then between 16 and 21 May Wilson’s substantial work for mezzo-soprano and sextet Dreamgarden will receive its US premiere with four performances in the Los Angeles/Santa Barbara area given by Camerata Pacifica, who commissioned the work. Performers include violinist Catherine Leonard and US-based Irish mezzo Kate Allen. The work’s final movement is a setting of Seamus Heaney’s 10th Glanmore Sonnet.
On 30 May violinist Cliodhna Ryan will première Una Santa Oscura – Fragment, a work for violin and soundtrack taken from Wilson’s acclaimed stage work for violinist Una Santa Oscura. This performance takes place as part of CMC's Salon series in the Kevin Barry Room at the National Concert Hall.
