MusicConnects: Hear the Sun Stand Still - 'Wintering' programme featuring music by Amanda Feery

To close out its Nature & Ecology theme for 2025, MusicConnects has created a ‘Wintering’ programme, a chance to wind down and reflect as the year comes to an end. This December in the city and county members of ConTempo Quartet, Galway’s Ensemble-in-Residence, will explore music that will help you to prepare you for the busy season ahead by slowing down, and prioritising rest and reflection. In line with MusicConnects’ commitment to programming and commissioning contemporary Irish composers, the programme will feature 'Sun Stand Stills' by Irish composer Amanda Feery. This piece considers the Winter Solstice through musical reflections on the year-end.

Music Unveiled will take a deep dive into some of the programme’s works. Featuring fascinating talks by composer Amanda Feery and senior lecturer of music at University of Galway Dr Aidan Thomson, with live demonstrations by ConTempo Quartet.

Facilitated by visual artist Maeve Curtis and author Mike McCormick, these events create space for deep listening and responding through mark making and writing. This initiative is part of Lochránn, an outreach initiative in partnership with Arts in Action.
