Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble: 'A New Beginning' featuring music by Greg Caffrey, Raymond Deane & Ryan Molloy

26 October 2023 19:30

Harty Room, Queen’s University

HRSE's Season 2023/24 launch and opening concert.

This concert celebrates HRSE's ongoing connections with local and international composers and begins with several premieres. HRSE performed Unrest by Greg Caffrey in their first season, they revisit this work at the beginning of their new decade, closing the concert with a new work by Raymond Deane, Skew Weft, a recent Arts Council of Ireland commission, which is dedicated to Greg.

HRSE will also showcase two upcoming composers: Sarah Colgan whose Demonic Dances was selected from the HRSE QUB residence last year, and Elatha’s Ascension by Samuel Kane. Sam was a PRSf composer of 22/23 and now as one of HRSE's Featured Young Artists of 23/24, Sam joins them on stage for this performance.

HRSE also builds upon existing connections with works by composers who are becoming well known to Hard Rain audiences: Sungji Hong and her most recent piece Eplisthisan, Anita Mawhinney with a world premiere of Macalla Mhacha, her third work for Hard Rain, and Ryan Molloy who composed a solo bass clarinet piece, Amhrán Fheilimidh, for HRSE's own Sarah Watts.
