"the dingle starry" composed by Vincent Kennedy especially for the performance of Ensemble Telyn Cymru at the 14th World Harp Congress.

The piece is for 4 Harp parts. In the first part of the music each of the Harp parts are tuned to different keys C, Eb, G and Bb. In the beginning of the music, one is looking up to the dingle starry. First one sees a star...then quickly another and so on. Then one begins to see formations in the stars and as the eyes adjust more of the billions of stars come into view and the whole of the visible night sky is represented by a great wash of sound that completes the first half of the piece. From here the composer imagines himself or anyone on a summer's night lying in a field in the countryside looking at the dingle starry and dreaming...

Vincent Kennedy composed “the dingle starry” especially for the Ensemble Telyn Cymru’s performance. The title comes from words in the first stanza of Dylan Thomas’ poem “Fern Hill”. This will be the second performance at a World Harp Congress of a work by Vincent as he conducted his music “The Chronicles of Meath” with the Meath Harp Ensemble in Sydney in 2014. His other major work with Harp is his setting in 10 songs for Soprano, Harp and Trumpet of St Francis of Assisi’s “The Canticle of Creation”.
