The Contemporary Music Centre Salon Series 2016: Modern Irish Music

27 October 2016 19:00

Lutheran Hall

The Contemporary Music Centre continues its 2016 Salon Series and returns to the Lutheran Hall on Adelaide Road. This concert features a programme of modern Irish music by musicians Gavin Brennan (saxophone), Aileen Cahill (piano), Adrian Mantu (cello) and Andreea Banciu (viola).

The programme will also feature the premiere of a special Arts Council commission by composer Jonathan Nangle for saxophonist Gavin Brennan, entitled Artificial Blissful State for baritone saxophone and electronics, a work which is intended as a commentary on the rise of AI (artificial intelligence) in our daily lives.

The Salon Series has been running since 2004 and aims to encourage newcomers and enthusiasts alike to engage with the music of Irish composers. Each performance takes place in an informal atmosphere with dialogue encouraged between composers, performers and audience. Each year a curator is appointed to curate the series. An open call for proposals goes out early each Autumn with an October deadline. Previous curators have included Ian Wilson (2014) and Siobhán Cleary (2015). The curator for 2016 is Linda Buckley and the October concert will be guest hosted by composer Jonathan Nangle.
