Uneven Score - An Assessment of the Gender Balance for Publicly Funded Composer Opportunities on the Island of Ireland 2004-2019

Uneven Score was commissioned by the Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) and Sounding the Feminists (STF) as part of a two-phase research project supported by the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. This report serves to document gender within contemporary music composition between 2004-19 and presents an assessment of the gender balance of publicly funded composer opportunities on the island of Ireland. Uneven Score was researched and written by independent Research Associate Dr Michael Lydon and published on 8 November 2023.

Uneven Score is Phase II of this research project; Phase I was achieved by Dr Ciara L. Murphy, resulting in the Scoping the Project Report, published in March 2020. This report considered the feasibility of the project, while also establishing an authoritative list of funding and commissioning organisations that offer specific composer funded opportunities, and determining the availability of relevant records for the project.
