REMUS GEORGESCU Composition Competition

The „Banatul” Philharmonic of Timișoara (Romania) is launching an international call to young composers to participate in the fourth edition of the Composition Contest within the "Remus Georgescu International Festival-Competition", which will take place between the 21st and the 25th of October 2025, as part of the "Remus Georgescu" International Music Festival. The five selected participants will each win a spot in the Composition Workshop coordinated by BEAT FURRER in Timisoara, during the Festival.

The 5 winners are required to participate physically in the workshops, otherwise they automatically cede their place in the contest to the next composer on the list. Travel expenses are to be supported by each of the winners. Accommodation
will be provided by the Festival. In addition, each of the selected competitors will compose a work during the creative commission period for an instrumental/ vocal ensemble to be performed in a specific location in Timișoara as part of a touring concert, which will take place during this year’s edition of the Festival. The work’s duration should be roughly 5-7 minutes. This newly composed work should have as its source of inspiration Maestro Remus Georgescu's quote (which will also be the Festival's motto for this edition): "Muzica este un mod de a da cu tiflă vremelniciei." ("Music is a way of laughing in the face of transience.”)
