The work, Concerto for Piano and Small Orchestra, is a commission for the Irish Chamber Orchestra and pianist Michael McHale, and will be premiered by them with conductor Gábor Tákacs-Nagy on 6 March 2014 at the RDS Concert Hall, Dublin.

The work will also be performed again in University Concert Hall, Limerick, on Friday, 7 March and this performance will be streamed live by Platform Ireland.

One of the biggest works which Garrett Sholdice has composed to date, the work is described by the composer as, ‘a celebration of the extraordinary musicianship of those fine musicians for whom I composed it … and a celebration of the beauty of the piano, my first musical instrument.’

The work, which is a commission with partial funding from the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, will be performed alongside works by Haydn and Verdi.
