CMC collaborates with Moving on Music and Belfast Music Society on the Night Music Series
Wed 24 Feb 2016
Night Music is a series of short concerts organised by Moving on Music, the Belfast Music Society and the Contemporary Music Centre involving top Irish and Northern Irish musicians. The series features chamber music presented in an informal setting, along with opportunities to eat, drink and meet the artists.
The series takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at the Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts in Belfast, and runs from February until April.
As part of the series, the Contemporary Music Centre hosts a CMC New Music Voices short pre-concert panel discussion with both performers and composers before each event. This discussion, chaired by CMC Director, Evonne Ferguson, offers a unique opportunity to hear from the creators and performers of the music on the programme, in an informal atmosphere.
The series began in February with a concert by pianist Ruth McGinley and cellist Gabriella Swallow featuring works by Belfast-based composers Piers Hellawell and Chris McCann.
The next concert on 2 March in the series is a partnership with Dublin based ‘Kaleidoscope Night’, and includes a new work by Greg Caffrey commissioned by Moving on Music for soprano Elizabeth Hilliard, and a work by Brian Irvine.
The CMC New Music Voices pre-concert panel discussion on 2 March will feature composers Brian Irvine and Greg Caffrey, with performers Laoise O’Brien and Elizabeth Hilliard.
