Concorde take ‘Up Close with Music’ to Galway
Following on from their recent concert marking the start of the Up Close with Music series in Dublin, Concorde join the Galway Ensemble in Residence: ConTempo Quartet for a concert in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway at 8 pm on 8 February.
Presented by the Galway Music Residency, the programme includes pieces commissioned by Concorde in recent years: Jane O’Leary’s A Way Through accompanied by Marie Hanlon’s visual images from the Annaghmakerrig woods; Judith Ring’s Swelt belly at dawn; Deirdre McKay’s buttons, breath, bow; and Dave Flynn’s Quirk No. 7 - ‘Slides, Cuts, Rolls & Crans’.
Also featured is a new work by Galway-based composer Alyson Barber, Illusions, Ariel Hernandez’ interpretation of Argentinian dance rhythms – Con permiso Litoral, and music by composers from Sweden and Italy. The concert will also be followed by a post-concert chat with the musicians.

A free pre-concert event takes place earlier in the day at the Galway City Museum, Spanish Arch at 2pm. Entitled ‘Putting it all together’, the event involves some of the featured composers and musicians and previews the pieces performed in the evening concert.
