An end of year message from CMC Director, Evonne Ferguson
2013 has been another busy and productive year for CMC, in the documentation, development and promotion of Contemporary Music, meeting the needs of composers, performers, musicologists, teachers, students and reaching a wide range of audiences: music enthusiasts, other artforms, children, young people and general public in our support to Contemporary Music.
Through creative partnerships with many individuals and organisations, CMC was able to deliver exciting seminars, performances, launches, interviews, projects and more, reflecting the vibrant world of new Irish music. So many musical highlights in 2013!
The CMC Board, staff and I are proud to have launched a new promotional CD and series in June new music::new Ireland; to have hosted the Future of Music in the Digital World conference which produced lively discussions and debate; to have welcomed so many people into the centre on Culture Night to hear works in progress by Irish composers; to have traveled to represent Irish composers at many festivals and events around the island, including West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Waterford New Music Week, Walled City Music Festival and internationally at the Ceol Nua at Durham University, UK, and as a partner in the pan-European network new music:new Audiences. We look forward to our new partnership with Music Generation Wicklow in the delivery of a series of commissions for young people for 2014 and to continuing our role on the steering group of the New Music Dublin Festival.
Thanks to all of you who have helped us make 2013 such a successful year for new music from Ireland and continued success to all the composers we are honoured to represent.
Best wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a musically prosperous 2014 from all of us here at 19 Fishamble Street!
Evonne Ferguson, Director, CMC
