A new project from Dublin-based music company Ergodos receives its premiere on 30 November

ep_songs_musiciansimage1The Songs Project features songs by Tim Buckley, P.J. Harvey, Steve Earle, Antonio Vivaldi, Tom Waits, The xx, Richard Thompson, Donnacha Dennehy, Henry Purcell, and many more, arranged by Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice.

Performed by Ergodos Musicians, the concert takes place at Dublin Unitarian Church on St. Stephen’s Green at 8pm. The project is described on Ergodos’ web site:

Ergodos Musicians’ Songs project is about two Dublin composers and their love of the song, the most constant of musical forms. Working closely with vocalist Michelle O’Rourke, reed player Seán Mac Erlaine and cellist Kate Ellis, composers Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice celebrate the way a melody or a lyric can live in memory, heart and limb — turning, dissolving and re-forming, but never vanishing.

Schlepper-Connolly and Sholdice have arranged, re-composed, weaved and stitched material drawn from the songs they love, from P.J. Harvey to Vivaldi. Their palette has all the eclecticism typical of an Ergodos production: 18th-century Italian opera aria, 1970s folk melancholia, late 90s alternative metal, 16th-century English cathedral canticles, contemporary indie pop, and much else. Experiences become transformed and transfigured. Old memories ignite and collide with new atmospheres and new counterpoints.

The concert features Michelle O’Rourke (voice), Kate Ellis (cello), Seán Mac Erlaine (reeds), and Benedict Schlepper-Connolly (guitar).
