A new choral work is premiered at the Sligo International Choral Festival
The work Big Bang is the result of a year-long project by Music Generation Sligo (MGS) and is composed by five students aged 13–16 under the guidance of composer Brian Irvine.
Big Bang is a 50-minute composition in seven movements inspired by the mystery and wonders of space, and features the work of Sligo teenagers, Ferdia Durkin, Matthew Rooney, Niamh Feeney, Ciara Murphy and Alice Purcell. The teenagers worked with MGS composer-in-residence Brian Irvine over the past year to produce the piece.
Commissioned by Sligo County Council’s Arts Service and managed by Music Generation Sligo (MGS) in partnership with Sligo Academy of Music, the work will be premiered at the Hawk’s Well Theatre on 10 November at 2pm as part of the Sligo International Choral Festival.
Featured performers include an extended Sligo Academy of Music Orchestra with the newly-formed MGS Youth Choir made up of singers from a number of youth choirs from Sligo, together with a number of soloists. The performance will also include a visual element, with projected images and video excerpts produced by Loch Bó Films.
