Edit-Point and Gildas Quartet at Belfast Festival

Edit-Point – an electroacoustic ensemble established in 2009 by composers Matthew Whiteside, Timothy Cooper and Louise Rossiter – will be joined by the Gildas Quartet for a performance of music for string quartet and electronics at the Belfast Festival on 26 October.

The group, now comprised of Whiteside, Cooper and Nicolas Virgo, was founded out of a desire to present and perform electroacoustic music involving instruments, video, collaborative work and electroacoustic music, presenting programmes and installations of new music by themselves and other Northern Irish and international composers. In 2011, Edit-Point were joined by the Manchester-based Gildas Quartet to perform a concert based around George Crumb's Black Angels, also including Whiteside's String Quartet No. 3. This month sees the two groups revive their collaboration, with a revised version of the programme that explores the relationship between the live string parts and electronics, on a small UK tour, beginning with a date as part of the Belfast Festival. The concert is funded by the Hope Scott Trust, Musicians' Benevolent Fund and the Crescent Arts Centre. Following this will be a performance as part of the Sound Festival in Aberdeen on 28 October.
