CMC's spring Salon series concludes on 20 May with music from Matthew Whiteside and Emma Lloyd

The event, which takes place at the Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall, at 6pm on 20 May 2015, features Emma Lloyd on viola and viola d’amore with composer Matthew Whiteside on electronics performing works by Ed Bennett and Linda Buckley alongside his own work.

This programme has been chosen to both explore an unusual instrument (the viola d’amore) and show three contrasting ways of using electronics with string instruments through pieces with a similar musical language.

Glasgow-based Northern Irish composer Matthew Whiteside, who recently released a debut album of his works, will have his Solo for Viola D’amore and Electronics from the album performed by Edinburgh-based string player Emma LLoyd. In the work the performer uses her own motion to manipulate the electronic resonance and amplification of the viola d’amore through the use of motion sensors.

Also included in the programme are Ed Bennett’s Ghosts and Do You Remember the Planets…? for viola and electronics by Linda Buckley.

All three composers featured will be present to talk about their work with composer Siobhán Cleary, curator and host of the series.
