Irish composer Patrick Brennan selected for ISCM World Music Days 2015

The jury of the ISCM 2015 World Music Days Festival have announced their selected works for the festival this year and have included a work by Irish composer Patrick Brennan, Ballabile, in the programme.
A native of Derry, Patrick Brennan studied piano at the Royal College of Music and completed his Master’s in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he was awarded a Guildhall Artist fellowship, studying with Julian Anderson. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of music with Hans Abrahamsen and Bent Sørensen. He was one of six young composers selected for participation in the LSO’s Panufnik Scheme, and was commissioned to write the selected piece for the orchestra as part of the scheme.

'I’m delighted that my piece, Ballabile, has been selected for performance at the ISCM World Music Days. This work takes its title from dance terminology; the word ”ballabile“ describes a passage in which the whole corps de ballet dances together. This image is somewhat analogous to my musical intentions for the work, which celebrates the sound of a full symphony orchestra and the instrumental families within it.'
The annual festival of contemporary music, which takes place this year in Ljubljana, Slovenia in September has been running since 1923. Held in different locations each year, the festival features at least one specially selected work from each member organisation.
