Events this fortnight

July’s Kaleidoscope night takes place on 4 July, with pieces by Greg Caffrey and George Higgs, as well as Bach, Liszt and Paganinni.

The Irish Composition Summer School are hosting a special event to celebrate their thirtieth year. Past students and teachers will give informal presentations and discussions, followed by a wine reception.

NI Opera Shorts feature performances of short operas in London as part of the London 2012 Festival by Northern Irish composers Ed Bennett, Brian Irvine, Deirdre McKay, Christopher Norby, and Conor Mitchell

Traditional-fusion ensemble Yurodny perform a concert at part of the UCD Imagine Science Festival featuring Dan Trueman and the Dublin Laptop Orchestra, and new works by Emma O’Halloran and Alex Dowling.

John Kinsella’s Prelude and Toccata for string orchestra (2008)
The work was originally written for string quartet and premiered by the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival (who also commissioned the work) in 2007. The string orchestra version was written for the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
