New music by composers from Louth and Meath performed by the ConTempo Quartet in June

The ConTempo Quartet, formed in Romania but resident in the West of Ireland, will perform a concert of works by composers in the Louth/Meath area. Bookending the programme are two works that have become staples of the Quartet's repertoire: George Crumb's Black Angels, a personal response to the horrors of the Vietnam War, and a work by Jane O'Leary previously commissioned by ConTempo called ConTempo Conversations.

The remainder of the programme consists of premieres from other composers from the area. Patrick Connolly, previous winner of the Seán O'Riada Memorial Trophy, is the first of these with Glistening, Moving, followed by Michael Holohan's String Quartet and Breifne Holohan's Vela – Sails in the Stars. Closing the section of the concert is David Ernest McCarthy's String Quartet.
