Ergodos Musicians presents a concert of early and 21st Century music in Kilkenny
The concert, entitled I Call to You, takes place in Castalia Hall, Ballytobin, Callan, Co. Kilkenny on 24 November 2011, and features an exciting programme of new and newly arranged pieces centred around the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Drawing from Bach’s organ chorale prelude, Ich ruf’ zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ, an elegiac harmonization of a Lutheran hymn tune from Bach’s Orgelbüchlein, I Call to You includes new works and arrangements of the chorale prelude from Jonathan Nangle, Simon O’Connor, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice.
The group writes about the programme:
‘In conceiving of its concert programmes as single, continuous works, Ergodos has sought to put the focus squarely on the audience experience. Ergodos frequently engages with the music of the past, recontextualising it with modern ears, finding the common threads between musical traditions.’
I Call To You is an Ergodos production curated by Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice. The concert begins at 8pm and is presented with the support of a Touring Award from the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
The works which feature in the concert are being recorded for release on the Ergodos recording label in 2012. The release is funded by the Music Network Recording Scheme.
