National Chamber Choir tours the US with new work by Siobhan Cleary.

After successful performances in Drogheda and Dublin, the NCC travel stateside for  US dates presented as part of Imagine Ireland,  a year of Irish Arts in America 2011. Imagine Ireland is an initiative of Culture Ireland. On this tour they bring a wonderful new choral work by Siobhan Cleary, with the interesting title, Theophilus Thistle and the Myth of Miss Muffett  already a favourite with the choir and with the Irish audiences who heard it over the weekend.  Cleary explains:

“The point of departure for this work lies in the tradition of word-games such as tongue-twisters,battologisms, spoonerisms and shibboleths. The structure follows a geographical area journeying from the Italian peninsula; north through Germany; south to the Iberian peninsula and west to Ireland."

On this tour, under their Artistic Director  and  principal conducter, Paul Hillier, the National Chamber Choir perform at  the University of Notre Dame, Cleveland Museum of Art, and venues in New Jersey, Chicago, Iowa and Nebraska.
