Work by Vincent Kennedy features in the inaugural WYO Fest
In Summer 2010 County Wexford School of Music invited a select group of conductors to apply to be the first guest conductor of the 1st WYO Fest (Wexford Youth Orchestra Festival). The conductor/composer Vincent Kennedy was chosen from a very high standard of applications to be the first guest conductor. In preparation for this wonderful event Vincent has visited and listened to all the participating orchestras and groups and has begun rehearsals, which will culminate in a performance of a Suite from Vincent's large scale work "The Hook - A Place and A People" at a concert in the O’Reilly Theatre, Wexford Opera House, on Saturday 5th March at 7pm.
"The Hook - A Place and A People" was commissioned by Wexford County Council under the per cent for Arts Scheme in 2004 and takes its inspiration from the history, place and people of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford. Having the composer conduct his own work brings an added dimension to preparation and performance for the festival.
