Premiere in New York of New work for Solo Piano by Jane O Leary

New York based Irish pianist Isabelle O’Connell will premiere a new work for solo piano by Jane O’Leary at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York on January 26.  The work, Breathing Spaces, was commissioned by O’Connell with funds from the Arts Council. The five movement piece is directly inspired by the vast open spaces of the Guggenhiem Museum in New York City and the writings of its architect, Frank Lloyd Wright who said ‘space is the breath of art’.

The concert takes place as part of the annual ModFest at Vassar College, a showcase for contemporary art across the disciplines.  O’Leary, a graduate of Vassar,  has been invited to present recent compositions and will also perform the American premiere of ‘Only gestures remain…’ for cello and piano with prize-winning New York cellist Sophie Shao, a laureate of the 2002 Tchaikovsky Competition.

The event is at 4 p.m. on January 26 in Main Building and is open to the public free of charge.
